Ghana School of Law Admission Requirements
Applicants must pass both the entrance exam and the interview in order to be eligible for admission to the Professional Law Course at the Ghana School of Law. The applicants who meet the following criteria are qualified to take the entrance exam:
a. Graduates of LLB programs from Ghana’s public university law faculties, such as KNUST in Kumasi, University of Ghana (Legon), and GIMPA, have been approved by the General Legal Council (GLC) and the National Accreditation Board (NAB).
b. Graduates of LLB programs from private university colleges in Ghana are also approved by the NAB and GLC.
Ghanaian LLB graduates or those with equivalent law degrees from universities in the UK, Canada, USA, and other common law jurisdictions are eligible for admission to the Professional Law Course if they have passed all the required subjects and courses. Foreign applicants with LLB or equivalent degrees from overseas universities are also eligible to write the Entrance Examination if they have passed the specified subjects at the LLB or equivalent level.
These subjects include Ghana Constitutional Law, Ghana Legal System and Methods, Criminal Law, Law of Equity and Succession, Law of Torts, Law of Contract, Law of Immovable Property, Company Law, and Commercial Law.
In addition to the nine (9) subjects listed above, applicants must have studied and passed any one of the following subjects:
- Law of Natural Resources
- Environmental Law
- Intellectual Property Law
- Law of Taxation
Upon successfully completing the Professional Law Course, admitted applicants are enrolled as barristers at law and solicitors of the Supreme Court.
Internship
The two-year program includes a mandatory 6-month internship. During this period, students are assigned to law firms, legal departments, and the courts for practical training. Evaluation will take place at the conclusion of the internship. Participation in the internship program is limited to students who have passed or been referred.
