Prior to submitting an application for theater arts at any university in Nigeria, we want to make sure you are aware that this course is open to both art and science majors. This article’s primary objective is to provide candidates who are interested in pursuing theater arts with the most recent JAMB subject combinations.

In addition to that, we will also provide a list of the Nigerian universities that admit students to theater arts programs.

Theatre art is a collaborative performing art form that uses live performers, typically actors or actresses, to present the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience in a particular location, frequently a stage. The performers express their experience to the audience through a combination of gesture, speech, song, music, and dance.

The physicality, presence, and immediacy of the experience are enhanced by the use of artistic elements like painted scenery and stagecraft-like lighting. A theatre troupe (or acting company), on the other hand, is a group of theatrical performers who collaborate, whereas a theatre company is an organization that produces theatrical performances.

Plays and musical theater productions are included in contemporary theater. Theater conventions like acting, costumes, and staging are used in the performing arts of ballet and opera. They had a big impact on how musical theater was developed.

JAMB Subject Combination For Theatre Arts

In order to study theatre arts, you must take the following four (4) subjects in JAMB, with the Use of English being required regardless of the course you intend to take:

  • and Arts subjects (CRS, Government e.t.c)

JAMB Cut Off Mark for Theatre Arts

Please be advised that the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board’s management has released the JAMB cut-off mark for Theatre Arts. This information is for all JAMB candidates who wish to study Theatre Arts at the university. The general JAMB cut-off score for this program is 160.

This indicates that the required minimum grade for theatre arts at any university is 160. However, it’s important to keep in mind that this is only a minimum cutoff mark for universities; it is not a fixed cutoff mark that JAMB will enforce at all universities. As a result, candidates applying to study theatre arts at universities where the JAMB cut-off mark is higher than the one mentioned above will not be accepted with such a score.

JAMB General O’level Subjects for Theatre Arts Admissions

In general, JAMB stipulates that applicants for dramatic arts or drama must have at least five (5) SSCE/O’level credit passes, including English Language and Arts.

In other words, only the English Language is required for performing arts, and the other 4 SSCE subjects can be chosen from subjects that are relevant to the arts, such as literature, government, CRS, etc.

Don’t celebrate just yet if you meet that requirement because some universities may be picky and uninterested, stating the specific subjects they require of you if those subjects are your choices. Additionally, the specifics of those universities take precedence over JAMB.

Lists Of Universities Offering Theatre Art In Nigeria

Theater arts can be offered at all universities, whether they are state-owned, privately run, or federally funded, but not all do. The National University Council’s (NUC) minimum standards for this course are not always met by all universities, which is why this is the case.
