Technically speaking, there has been decelerated growth in the Nigerian educational system, especially in the polytechnic sector which has made little or no impact in the country.
As a result of this, a lot of attention of students have drifted away from making the decision to be enrolled in polytechnics.
But now, a lot of people are beginning to see the need for a Polytechnic education as a result of the tremendous factors ranging from good and qualified lecturers to well-equipped hostels and labs including good facilities for practical-based courses.
A polytechnic is a technical institution that offers post-secondary technical education programs that result in the award of degrees and certificates such as the National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND).
Depending on their degree of training, these institutions’ graduates will be able to work as entry-level technicians, higher technicians/technologists, or professionals in their respective fields of expertise.
A polytechnic may engage in applied research and carry out any other duties that may occasionally be assigned by its Council. The minimum entry criterion is the SSSC/GCE O’Level with credit passes in at least five program-relevant subjects, or their equivalents.
An HND graduate who has been trained both in character and in learning sometimes tends to perform better than some of their counterparts in the University.
For this reason, Reputable companies, industries, and establishments sometimes prefer to employ the services of a Polytechnic graduate because they believe he or she has gone through a series of practicals and field work than their counterparts in the University who are solely given just the theory part of learning.
