University of Benin Postgraduate Admission Requirement
1. At least five (5) credits in WASC, NECO, or GCE (ordinary level or their equivalents), including English Language and Mathematics, are required of candidates for postgraduate studies at the University of Benin.
2. A total of four credits at the Ordinary level, plus an OND (fail), NCE, IJMB, or Advance level pass, or any other equivalent.
3. An individual with a Pass (Degree/Diploma) is ineligible for enrollment in the University of Benin’s postgraduate program. In addition, PGD is a requirement for all individuals with a third-class degree in order to be considered for admission to the Master’s programs.
4. Only the M.Phil. program can be considered in the first instance for applicants who earned a Master’s degree but had a Weighted Average Score (WAS) between 55.0 and 59%.
5. An applicant for a Ph.D. in any of the University of Benin’s programs must have earned a minimum weighted average of 60% for their Master’s degree.
6. When applying for admission, a candidate with a Master’s degree from another university who has not previously taken the required courses or courses that are comparable to those at the University of Benin but who wants to pursue a Ph.D. is required to offer those courses and pass them with a minimum grade of 60%.
7. Only those students who may be cleared into the university’s postgraduate program have an official NYSC discharge, exemption, or exclusion certificate.

How to Apply for UNIBEN Postgraduate Admission Form 2024/2025
For the academic year 2024/2025, the UNIBEN postgraduate application and registration form must only be used online.
- Application forms must be purchased online by applicants for N21,000.00 using a valid VERVE OR MASTER ATM BANK CARD.
- Candidates must submit an online application using a valid VERVE OR MASTERCARD ATM.
- Note: Submitting multiple applications will reduce your likelihood of being accepted.
- If you have already submitted an online application, kindly do not continue with this one. Your “APPLICATION NUMBER” should be carefully noted. This identifies your application in a unique way, and it must be used going forward for login purposes and to continue any incomplete applications.
- A clear scan of your face in a frontal full-face pose, showing both eyes clearly and free of any head or ear coverings, is required to be submitted with your application. A RED BACKGROUND is required for the full face pose, which must take up 70–80% of the image.100x100dpi minimum and 150x150dpi maximum resolutions must be used when scanning your image. JPEG, PNG, or Bitmap are the three file types in which images can be saved. If your photo does not adhere to the aforementioned requirements, please note that you will not be considered.
- The provided email address should receive a reference number for a successful payment. A saved application must always be continued with the reference number.
- Make sure to print a copy of your online application after submitting it so you have a copy for your records.

- The application process includes more than just submitting your application online. You might need to submit supporting documentation to finish your application.
